Today I drove to one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. DOWNTOWN of course. Flower/Olive/First/GRAND that entire block of LA sweetness. I was visiting the courthouse for an interview and when it was over, I just aimlessly drove around the area, not wanting to go back to the purgatory that is UCLA. But let me tell you about LA's Superior Courthouse. Its 7 floors of pure madness. Yet theres still something very moving about all the crowded halls. As hectic as it was, it was all very civil too...Civil in the sense of everyone sharing the commonality of desperation. People are all the same, because people are all just trying to get by.
I saw this huge 100 person line for self-representative litigants, for family law cases. That could mean, 50 divorce claims. 45 daddys who don't want to pay child support. 5 kidnappings. IN ONE DAY. And then the line starts fresh tomorrow.
Its sad watching people get worn and torn, and to think 1 nasty court experience can callous a person for life. I see it in my mom sometimes. sometimes I feel like she wasted the majority of her adult life in court. But anyways on a happier note, I guess everything I mentioned above is why I love LA, this city of angels. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Desperation and all.
Its 2am and I'm workin on a paper about Ibsen. Bad flashbacks of English AP with Fahey. Why do we study theatre as life? Its theatre.
